Over the years, Amarin has been a steady presence and provider of business development services provider for several SMEs. Our support comprises of;
Our work with Goal Uganda focused on providing business assessment and training on the farm and off-farm businesses in business management and bookkeeping. We were able to assess over 200 farmer groups in the Karamoja and Lango areas, and we were able to provide training to about 300 entrepreneurs on the topics mentioned above.
Swisscontact contracted Amarin as a Business Support Services Advisor to support youth in the agribusiness, hospitality, and construction sectors. We also helped farmers in the cocoa and beekeeping value chains. Amarin’s team conducted needs assessments; developed participants’ skills in entrepreneurship, business management, financial management, and marketing; shared additional materials and modules on these topics; and identified, assessed, and trained over eighty local business development service providers to support the youth and farmers participating in this program. Collaboratively with the business development trainers we reached over 10,000 youth & 20,000 farmers who benefited from the two initiatives. We provided support supervision, coaching, and mentorship to both business development providers and to youth who transitioned from livelihood projects to entrepreneurship.
We have been at the forefront as the local lead collaborator in the understanding of and development of the entrepreneurial ecosystem of Uganda and Kampala in particular. Together with Swisscontact and supported by University of St. Gallen and Makerere Business School, we piloted the use of Social Network Analysis to understand the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem of Uganda with sponsorship from Credit Suisse. This work continued as Action Research. Funded by the Argolus Foundation and Credit Suisse, we developed four tools to support ecosystem building. Amarin’s MD is currently collaborating with the Innovative Rural Development Corporation to create a platform that supports Ecosystem Actors with tools to build the invisible infrastructure of their ecosystems.
Amarin has performed business assessments of over 30 farmer groups working with UGACOF Limited, the leading coffee exporter in Uganda. We trained 20 cooperatives in business management, governance, and farming as a business conducting the cost-benefit analyses for coffee. The training enabled the farmers to increase volumes of coffee, attract more members to their groups, follow up on their tax obligations, and begin a new way of doing business.
Amarin developed a working partnership with USAID Feed the Future Commodity Production and Marketing Activity (CPM) in 2014. From then on until the close of the project in 2017, Amarin supported CPM with business support capacity building. Together, we piloted the service of bookkeeping to small and medium enterprises in the coffee, maize, and beans value chains. Amarin performed enterprise business assessment, recommended interventions required, guided the SMEs on business management, financial management, and governance.
